This is from V8Buick.
"O.K. let's see if any one has an answer to this one. I'm gonna pick up a Holly projection set-up for the 70 Lark with a 350. Holly states that the ingnition programing portion of the ECU works with 1980 1/2 thru 1990 GM ditributors with a 7-pin module. Does anyone out there know if there was such an animal? I know bout' 80 or so the mighty Buick 350 went out of production. Local parts places just look at me like I'm an idiot. I will get it to work, but the easier the better. I would truely apreciate any info on the subject. thanks in advance."
I've been doing this locked out/EFI conversion to all kinds of points dists for 10 years now. I just got done with one for an International Harvester Travelall, and have one to do this way for a 1956 T-Bird thisd coming week. These all use a Commander 950, all except the T-Bird are TPI, all have feedback modules. I did 4 others for the IH guy already, and another for a fellow that collects McCullock superchargers, of which he uses the C950 and one of his blowers, on his street C950'd Olds 455 in his 442. One for a 360 Mopar, and a few really bizarre ones.
The 7 pin module ISN'T the one to use, there is a better GM module. Holley has the correct connector wire loom for it, to the computer.
The 4 pin HEI body can be butchered up to fit the 7 pin module, but why, when you can do better with an old points dist and an even better module! |

IgnitionMan,
Is the better GM module the 8-pin one?
I've got one of your small-body distributors, currently using it as an MSD trigger on my 455. I'm about to jump to the Holley TBI system, and am interested in a nice clean setup for the ignition, trading the MSD for computer controlled timing.
I'm assuming the way to do it would be with an externally-mounted HEI module, either 7- or 8-pin? Instead of made-at-home wiring for the module, is there a straightforward connector?
Thanks, James |

Probably as there was a smallbody 8 pin
lots of decent info on the page
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/GM_7pinHEI.htm
[I know link says 7 but its about 8]
"HEI 8-pin module from the "small cap" HEI distributor. This was used on 1987 through 1992 Camaro/Firebird Tuned Port Injection V8 engines, as well as 1987 to 1993 full size cars and 1987 to 1995 pick-up trucks, and V6 MPFI cars (such as the Fiero). It uses a remotely mounted coil (i.e., not in the cap)," |

I assume that as he says butcher to make a 7 fit, an 8 would drop in, extra wire is just a ground that page says. |

Hmmm...wonder if that small 8-pin module would fit into one of Dave's small-body distributors? |

Id say so if they used the 8 pin in the "V6 MPFI cars (such as the Fiero)", the dizzy on them is tiny. |
